Louvain School of Management Research Institute (ILSM)

The Louvain School of Management Research Institute (ILSM) is devoted to theoretical and applied, empirical and experimental studies of management of private and public organizations, including but not limited to research on internal and external functional management processes that are present in all enterprises and organizations. Since management by itself is characterized by its multiple facets, dynamics and interdependence with resource, process and product development, the science of management requires multiple approaches in terms of functional orientation, research methodology and focus. This is why the Institute mobilizes around 70 faculty members and 100 affiliated researchers from the fields of economics, information system science, operations research, psychology and sociology to address management questions of societal and economic relevance.

The Institute is organized around five research centers, each gathering a critical number of permanent faculty and researchers around a domain with a managerial, disciplinary and thematic consistency to enable creative and high-impact research, effective doctoral training and attract external financing. Open to disciplinary excellence in related areas, the Institute also has a large number of associated members from other institutes such as IACCHOS, ICTEAM, IMMAQ and ISPOLE, collaborating closely within the ILSM research centers.

The Institute is the first inter-university research institute within the university consortium Louvain and is fully integrated across all four campuses of the Louvain School of Management (Brussels, Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons and Namur).

Besides the organization of research activities, endowed research chairs and sponsored research, ILSM is coordinates information about the Doctoral School of Management with around 100 active doctoral students and 15 doctoral degrees awarded each year.
