Campus LifeUCL campus life takes place on six campuses: Louvain-la-Neuve, Brussels Woluwe, Mons, Tournai, Brussels Saint-Gilles and Charleroi. UCL's main campus is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, one of the most recent towns in Europe and combines modernity and tradition. Its designer, UCL Professor Michel Woitrin, was inspired by the layout of mediaeval university towns and by American campuses when designing the main outlines of the city and its districts. The town offers a full range of services: shops, offices, theatres and cinemas, housing, sports facilities and museums (including the new Hergé Museum). With a railway station, public transport (bus) and a road infrastructure that places it at less than 30 minutes away from Brussels, it welcomes some 40 000 people every day. Brussels Woluwe is the home of the Faculty of Medicine and the principal university hospital, les Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc. Institutes of higher education, a primary school, a sports complex and leading companies have transformed the campus into a lively, densely populated space, frequented by 26 000 students, patients, employees and visitors every day. In Brussels Saint-Gilles and Tournai are located the two Higher Institute of Architecture Saint-Luc, who joined UCL in 2010. With the school of Architectural Engineering located in Louvain-la-Neuve, they make up the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning (LOCI). At the start of the Academic year 2011-2012, the "Facultés universitaires catholiques de Mons" join UCL. A fifth site will than be located in Mons. UCL also has a site in Charleroi (in the Maison Georges Lemaître ant the Institut Saint-André).
