Pôle Louvain
.jpg)
Since March 2005, the Pôle Louvain officially groups together 22 partners involved in higher education, both academic and non-academic. The aim of the partnership is to create a better coordination between the members of the network, allowing students and staff to better profit from the specificities of each level of education.
In practice, partner institutions see to it that their curriculums are complimentary – especially the various ‘bridging programmes’ –, they co-organise educational activities and continuing education programmes, they exchange teachers and researchers and work together on social security issues and student services. The network encourages the collaboration between faculties, departments and institutes and allows the partners to participate in UCL research projects. A more practical advantage is that various infrastructures and services, such as libraries and cultural or sports facilities, can be shared.
End of 2008, the Pôle Louvain is composed of 21 entities: the three universities of the Académie universitaire ‘Louvain’, nine colleges of higher education, two higher institutes for architecture, six art schools and one adult education school. These are spread across campuses in seventeen different Walloon cities, amongst which Liège, Charleroi, Tournai, Brussels, Nivelles, etc.

Our Sister University: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

www.kuleuven.be
A rapprochement policy has been put in place between UCL and the KULeuven (Louvain, Flanders). The respective rectors and executive boards regularly meet up and the collaboration between the two universities has already resulted in numerous shared achievements. Civil engineers, for example, now receive a joint degree from both universities. On an international level, UCL and KULeuven participate in missions together and in the field of research, the institutions are engaged in cutting-edge research programmes. Finally, the two universities will be co-hosting the “Bologna 2009” summit, which will unite the European ministers of higher education in April 2009.
