To provide the best advice and the best support for international students and researchers, that, in a nutshell, is the mission of the Louvain International Desk.
Jointly led by the administration departments of teaching, research and international relations, the LID has as its aim to bring together the initiatives of the general services, the faculties and the institutes targeting information for, and reception of, international students and researchers. Its work is situated within the framework of the university’s program of internationalisation 2010-2012, which is resolutely based on improving the quality and the international attractiveness of its research, its teaching and its services.
The LID will also position itself as a focal point for all requests for information made by (future) students or (future) international researchers.
The LID was inaugurated on 1 February 2010. It is led by a team of three: Sara Wilmet (Administration of Research – ADRE), Pierre Escoyez (Administration of teaching and in-service training – ADEF), and Lucie Pétillon (Administration of international relations – ADRI), who will work together on developing the LID.
The Louvain International Desk will work on issues common to researchers and students while at the same time developing specific missions for each.
In its section for students, the LID aims to provide the best guidance through the structures of the UCL for regular international students, from their first contact to the end of their stay and their return home.
In its section for researchers, the LID is listed in EURAXESS, the European network of more than 200 centres in 35 countries. As a member of EURAXESS, the LID will enable UCL to fulfil its commitments concerning aid to researchers and their families at each step of their international mobility. This personalised service aims to make the life of researchers easier in their transnational movements and undertakes to provide them with up-to-date information as well as individualised assistance in all areas, whether administrative or legal, or concerning everyday life in their new host community.
The LID also has a mission of internal service with regard to the general services, institutes and faculties of UCL confronted with problems or questions concerning the reception of foreign students or researchers. The LID will be available to advise and guide them to the people or departments able to assist them.
The LID is under the responsibility of the administrative directors of ADEF, ADRE and ADRI and under the supervision of the vice-rectors for research, teaching and service to society.
