The Académie universitaire 'Louvain' has almost 2,200 PhD students, half the total number in the French-speaking Community of Belgium. UCL alone provides support and teaching for over 1,800 of them. 

This shows how important doctoral studies are to our University: whether by offering high-quality teaching and support to our PhD students, the implementation of clear and transparent procedures throughout the study process, or the emphasis on fair treatment for our PhD students. Following the Bologna reform in 2005, these concerns led to the creation of a single set of doctoral regulations that apply to all PhD students irrespective of their field of study and/or member institution of the Académie Louvain at which they are enrolled.
