Everywhere around us, from the sea to the mountains, from the forests to the rivers, from the sky to the earth, life presents itself in various ways: viruses, bacteria and other microscopic living beings, plants in all forms, animals, from the weirdest to the most common. All reproduce, move, interact. Unicellular or made up of complex tissues, they are able to self-regulate their internal functioning, they communicate between one another, feed themselves, become one another’s parasites or help each other, they live and die. Biologists explore life in these various levels of organisation, scrutinise its functioning and analyse its evolution.
