International media coverage for a joint UCL/MIT paper on privacy and mobile phone data
A joint UCL/MIT study by Y.-A. de Montjoye, C. Hildalgo, M. Verleysen and V. Blondel on anonymized mobile phone dataset analysis shows that knowing as few as 4 public locations is sufficient to identify the vast majority of individuals in the dataset.
The international press showed great interest in this study. The results published in Nature Scientific Reports
was quoted by BBC, CNN, Technology Review, The Telegraph or The Times of India. This paper contributes to the public debate about data collection and the protection of privacy.
