Service to society

Serving society is the University’s third mission alongside teaching and research.

 The Public Service Council

The Public Service Council is the body under the Academic Council that is responsible for organizing the University’s public service activities. It is chaired by Professor Benoît Macq, Public Service Pro-Rector.

 Regional development

UCL has close links with the economic fabric of the Regions.

Almost a hundred businesses operate in its science parks. UCL is also an active participant in various industrial consortia, clusters and groups. The University has also set up, or been involved in the creation of, a number of applied research centres in Hainaut: the centres of excellence.

 Technology platforms

Platforms offer across-the-board support to research institutes, but can also support teaching and public service activities. They can be incorporated into an institute, co-managed by a number of institutes, or be independent.
