Our researchers

UCL employed 3.699 researchers (pp) in 2011, broken down as follows:

  • 340 FNRS researchers and clinicians working in the university hospitals
  • 1,968 research and teaching staff on internal funding
  • 1391 research and teaching staff on external funding

1,975 PhD students are registered, the majority of whom are part of the research and teaching staff.

Three-quarters of the academic staff are men, but gender parity has almost been achieved among the research and teaching staff: 54% are men and 46% women.

In this impressive community of knowledge and expertise, we are proud to be able to call on individuals who are recognized experts in their field and who are often asked to comment on social or topical issues.

Over time, we have also put together profiles of our researchers. If you would like to get to know them, please go to the “Sous la loupe” (“Under the microscope”) section on the research home page.
