Visiting PhD researcherResearchers studying for a PhD may spend time conducting research as part of a UCL team without having to enrol on the doctoral programme at UCL if they have sufficient resources and if they are invited to join a research team. For a stay of less than three months, researchers studying for a PhD will be regarded as internships, just like any other student. Those who are required to apply for a visa may do a placement of no more than three months under a tourist visa. Accordingly, this time limit does not apply to students from the European Union (who are not subject to visa requirements). Researchers of all nationalities studying for a PhD who wish to stay for longer than three months will have to ask the Student Office to provide them with an official "Autorisation d'inscripotion" (offer of a place) so that they can apply for a research certificate. This document will enable the non EU Students to submit a visa application to the Belgian embassy or consulate in their own country.
