There are many different types of teaching staff at UCL. These include:
- full-time and part-time lecturers whose activities can be broken down into three main aspects: teaching, research and services to society. The pursuit of an academic career is defined in regulations in accordance with a legislative framework common to all universities in the French community of Belgium;
- university hospital lecturers, who conduct their teaching, research and service activities at the Saint-Luc University Hospital (Brussels) or Mont-Godinne University Hospital (Namur). The pursuit of a clinical academic career is defined in the regulations governing medical doctors, pharmacists and dentists at university hospitals;
- visiting lecturers, for limited periods ranging from one to three years to fill a teaching post within the Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctorate degree programmes.
