Currency and banking

The currency used in Belgium is the euro. Prices shown include all taxes.

It's useful for you to open a bank account during your stay in Belgium.

Several banks have branches on the Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels campuses. You can open an account, carry out transactions, etc., at these branches, which are open from 9 am to 3 pm on weekdays. Please note that it can take several days to open a bank account.

If you’re coming from abroad, remember to bring cash for the first few days of your stay (about 500 euros). Your own bank will most probably have a local counterpart in Belgium too. Speak to them before you leave.
