The Research Board

The various functions of the Research Board were set out in the Royal Decree of 1 September 1978.
The Board has a mandate to advise the University’s Academic Council on the institution’s research policy. It takes care of the general administration of research funds, primarily as regards fundamental research.

In particular, it is required to:

• submit to the Academic Council any proposals that may define and support science policy strategy;
• propose budget breakdowns for Interuniversity Attraction Poles, Coordinated Research Projects, Special Research Funds, grants for research fellow and postdoctoral researcher posts funded by the Fund for Scientific Research - FNRS, UCL-FSR, investments in scientific logistics, libraries and IT infrastructure.
The Research Board also advises the Academic Council on new research training programmes and proposed changes to existing programmes (graduate schools and graduate colleges).

The Research Department provides support to the Research Board.
