Subject-specific doctoral committees (CDDs)

Subject-specific doctoral committees (abbreviated to CDDs in French) have been set up within the Académie universitaire 'Louvain' and are the bodies responsible for administering PhDs in their various fields of study. As such, the CDD is the main point of contact for PhD students and their supervisory panels throughout their studies, and can also deal with any problems that may arise between PhD students and their supervisor(s).

The CDD in particular is responsible for validating the four compulsory stages of the PhD programme of study (these stages may be preceded by an optional provisional admission stage, if necessary):

• admission to the PhD programme,
• mid-term evaluation (within 24 months of admission),
• private defence,
• public defence.

Within the Académie, separate CDDs have been set up for each of the fields of study referred to in the Decree of the French-speaking Community of 31 March 2004. However, some CDDs cover several fields, and the Académie universitaire Louvain has 15 CDDs covering all of the 20 + 1 areas of study.

If you click on the header of the field of study in the menu on the left-hand side, you will be taken directly to the list of members and specific provisions of that CDD, and will also find other useful information ( of all the CDDs and their membership).

The CDDs report annually to CODAL, the Academy Doctoral Committee, so that matters are properly coordinated at the level of the Académie universitaire 'Louvain'.
