Bacteriologie

The laboratory of food and environmental microbiology is a team composed of ca. 20 people, part of which is working on both fundamental subjects in bacteriology (food pathogens, horizontal gene transfers, biofilms) and more applied projects (microflora on food surface, inhibitory properties of soil bacteria on fungi) mainly financed by the Walloon region. The projects that are carried out in the laboratory involve state of the art molecular and engineering techniques. Another part of the group performs routine analyses for the detection of pathogens and total flora in food and environmental samples to destination of industrial clients. MBLA is also the reference laboratory for the microbiology chain of REQUASUD, a quality network of the Walloon region including 6 food microbiology laboratories. The reference laboratory provides staff training, technical support and assistance in the quality management and organizes inter-laboratory trials.
